GQA replacement questions

Do I have to replace my old GQA Q-card?

No. The design change does not cancel an existing card. CSCS says both designs should be accepted when the card is valid, in date and appropriate for your role. Replacement is optional.

What changed on the GQA card?

GQA introduced the new design on 2 June 2025. It looks closer to the familiar CSCS card and supports contactless checking in the CSCS Smart Check app.

Is this a renewal or a qualification upgrade?

No. A design replacement reprints your existing card. It does not award a qualification, change your card level or extend its expiry date. If your card is expiring, compare the renewal route first.

What do I need to send?

Have your card number, expiry date, card colour, personal details, photo ID and separate proof of address ready. We prepare Form 249 for you. A new photo is optional. No new health and safety test, qualification certificate, signature or return of your old card is needed for a valid-card design replacement.

Can I apply if another centre issued my GQA card?

Yes. We can arrange a design replacement for a valid GQA card even if another centre issued it. A card from another issuing scheme needs its own replacement route.

How long does a replacement take?

Allow approximately 10 working days for delivery after GQA confirms processing. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed arrival date. Choose a UK address where someone can accept the delivery.

Can I use the new card on my phone?

GQA supports digital cards in the My CSCS app for eligible new smart cards. Digital access is provided by GQA after issue; submitting this request does not create an instant digital card.

Will I need another health and safety test?

No. A design-only replacement of your valid GQA card does not require a new health and safety test. Renewal or a change of card level is a different service with its own requirements.
